BellSouth
BusinessSM Basic Rate ISDN (BRI) service allows a single telephone line to
carry voice, video and data simultaneously, to offer you more efficient and affordable
service. With BRI service, you even have the option of combining available channels to
obtain additional bandwidth when you need it.
BellSouth BusinessSM BRI service has two B channels for carrying voice, video or
data, and a third channel (the D channel) that carries the call set-up information and
low-speed packet data. Each of the B channels is capable of speeds as high as 64 Kbps. For
applications that require more bandwidth such as videoconferencing or higher-speed
Internet access the B channels can be combined to offer up to 128 Kbps. In
addition, multiple phone numbers can be assigned to one BRI line.
Features:
- All-digital service
- Speeds up to 128 Kbps
- Integrated voice, video and data
- Flexible capacity on demand
- Uses existing wiring
Benefits:
- Enables more efficient use of your
network: Voice, video and data are transmitted simultaneously.
- Improves customer service to your
customers: Since BellSouth BusinessSM BRI permits
multiple calls to be received over a single line, customers encounter fewer busy signals.
- Increases productivity: Voice and
data functions are performed simultaneously.
- Increases transmission accuracy and
speed: Since BRI service operates over a digital network, errors in data transmission are
reduced. Data is sent at higher speeds than with analog modems.
- Improves network connectivity: With
BRI service, multiple locations can share information without the need for a dedicated
line. In addition to LAN-to-LAN communications, BRI also makes data communications from
remote or home office locations faster and more flexible.
- Saves money: BellSouth BusinessSM BRI service requires no specialized expensive cabling. It
operates over twisted-pair wiring the same sort of wiring used for everyday
telephone service.
Sample Applications:
- One line, multiple numbers: By using
BRI and Multiple Directory Numbers, a single line can provide executives with their own
incoming numbers.
- Extended network: If your company
has branch offices or workers in remote locations, BRI can provide high-speed connections
to your network. The bandwidth is used only when needed, and is available for other
applications the rest of the time. You can connect LANs across a campus or across the
country.
