Abbreviated Dialing

Call Coverage
Businesses know calls are always answered and that callers rarely, if ever, receive a busy signal.  DEFINITY ® BCS can route calls automatically even if the caller doesn't know the room number or extension.  The Dial By Name feature adds a new option to the Direct Access (vector) menu.  when a caller chooses the Dial By Name option, the system instructs the caller how to dial the called party name into the system.

Flexible Network Access
Lucent Technologies has long been a leader in networking. DEFINITY ® BCS builds on that strength to provide basic network access features such as:

  • Time-of-Day Routing: selects the most economical routing of Automatic Route Selection (ARS) and Automatic Alternate Routing (AAR) calls based on the time of day and the day of the week.
  • ARS/AAR: routes network calls on the most desirable and usually the most economical  trunking facilities available on the system.
  • Generalized Route Selection: selects optimal call routing based on the dialed number, and selects the appropriate facility based on the type of call.
  • Facility Restriction Level: limits user calling privileges for income and outgoing calls.
  • Authorization Codes: temporarily raised a telephone's Facility Restriction Level.  This is useful for those who make calls from telephones other than their own or from outside the network.
  • Trunk Group Circuits: Local Exchange Trunks, Tie Trunks, Auxiliary Trunks.
  • Interfaces: T1/E1, ISDN-PRI, Analog DID/CO.
  • Name and number transparency on private network (via QSIG ISDN PRI).

Easy-To-Use System Administration
DEFINITY ® BCS offers a variety of modular tools for system management.

  • Local access via Terranova® Terminal Emulator software - that can be installed on a PC - is the standard system management tool for DEFINITY ® BCS.   Customers have access to all possible administration, maintenance, traffic, and performance information on the system. DEFINITY ® BCS provides an intuitive interface with forms-based selections and help keys.  Local access via the System Management Terminal is optional.
  • Multiple concurrent administration sessions allow up to three local or remote users to connect to the DEFINITY ® BCS to simultaneously perform administration and/or maintenance tasks.  This feature allows administrator to handle peak demand more effectively.
  • Terminal administration via Administration Without Hardware and Terminal Translation Initialization simplifies moves and wiring installation.   Translation data is associated with an extension, not a port, so administrators can "randomly" wire and install phones.
  • Performance measurements are available through a number of system-based reports that administrators can access locally or remotely.
  • Call Detail Recording allows companies to monitor and analyze call patterns and usage in their system.
